much better this timetl;dr—i am more satisfied with the color i ordered recently than i was with my first color kit. my natural hair color is pitch black. i’ve had a good history of changing my hair’s color. most of the time, dyes aren’t too effective. bleaching is the way to go to truly lighten my hair—i actually got fragile blonde highlights at a few points in my life. but i hate having to go to a quality salon just to spend $$$ on improving my appearance. so i resorted to esalon instead. for my very first esalon color kit, i ordered the darkest brown intense pearl shade (if i can remember the name correctly). it was this brunette with undertones of purple & a bit of red. i ended up with some hot roots & most of the color showed up on good lighting. i asked for stronger purple undertones, but the reds showed up even more, ahaha. nevertheless, the overall result still looked cute & i was satisfied. today, i dyed my hair with my second esalon color kit order. with adjustments for lighter color & everything. i also looked up some tips on avoiding hot roots & other self-dyeing mistakes. my gosh, the results are gorgeous. i achieved a delicious dark chocolatey brown. no hot roots at all! it looks so much more stunning underneath the sunlight. the good after-salon smell retains as i’m writing this. all i did was rebel against my personalized instructions a bit by doing my ends first before the roots (sorry...). i left the color gunk on the ends for a good 15-ish minutes, then kinda rushed with the roots. thank you to my fellow colorist & the folks at esalon! looking forward to my third order. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Quality product but not the color I wantedThe quality is great. It doesnt stain bathtubs, came with all the tools, two different shades for roots and ends and it left my hair soft, however, after following the directions to the tee and letting my stylist know my current dark color, my desired color did not come out. I picked a copper mahogany on dark brown hair. I got a 20 developer assigned to me. All it did was give my roots a slight red tint and my lighter brown tips a rusty bronze color. If you have dark brown hair, I suggest sticking with the darker colors or bleach it first because they will give you options for red or golden shades that may not come out. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. dark blondNOW ON MY 4TH APPLICATION OF DARK BLOND AND I HAVE HAD GOOD RESULTS, BUT I FEEL THE COLOR NEEDS HIGHLIGHTS. UNFORTUNATELY ESALON NEVER HAS THE BALAYAGE IN STOCK AND YOU CAN'T PREORDER IT. Hair ColorI really like the ease of doing my own hair color, but the past two times, it doesn’t seem to cover my gray as good or as long. Didn't cover my gray. Very disappointed!I followed all of your instructions very carefully and the results were poor. Your product costs more than 3X what I paid for another popular brand purchased from my drugstore, and that product worked much better. I would like to cancel my future orders. Gray coverage just okayThis time around the color was much closer to what I was looking for. I just wish that my colorist had listened a bit more to what I was looking for the first time. I think that the pics may not have been taken into consideration and would rather have had the option to talk to my colorist on the phone to accurately describe what I was looking for. To just touch up my roots the one bottle seems to be okay but when I got my first color for my entire head 2 bottles was not enough.
