Great color, just as advertisedThis is a great medium brown, with gold hints and no red or coppery tones, which is the reason I got this color. The only concern I have is that this color does not last as long on roots as I would like. It does fade on the roots after about a week, so I am experimenting with perhaps leaving it on longer than 15 minutes. That doesn't change the fact that its wonderful color for a medium brunette, the trick is in the technique. Esalon has a lot of helpful hints on their site. Updated on Sep 13, 2023: The solution to the roots problem was to slightly darken the color. That did take care of the root fade problem and the overall gray coverage was better. It didn't lose the gold tinge at all and the shade is not too dark, but this worked. Asked for a lighter red color, I got a brown with a touch of red hue.I asked for a lighter red color, because the red I was being sent was too dark. What I got was brown with a slight hint of red. Does NOT cover my grays!I tried them once and the formula (dark brown) didn’t cover my grays, which happen to frame my face. I told them and they changed the formula so that I’d get better gray coverage. This time didn’t work any better. Now I look like I have 3 different colors of hair - dark brown, gray, and orange (from where some of the grays held onto a slight shade of brown, making them appear orange). I would add a picture if that were an option. I gave 2 stars bc the kit itself is nice, but their color just doesn’t work on my hair! 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Did you? |

Color wasn't rightRead so many good reviews about Esalon, and decided after a long time I'd give them a try. I did love everything I got and instructions were easy to understand. Be prepared to be IMPRESSEDFirst off, I want to say that I’m a stylist and have been for 22 years, specializing in color. I’m also an Educator and spent a few years teaching for Paul Mitchell the School. I was not expecting to be impressed. I don’t think that’s even a strong enough positive word to share this experience!! I was so impressed that I received an email from the team asking about my choice. They noticed that I was going down 2 levels in color and wanted to make sure I was aware, this would be a dramatic change. I replied to the email and assured my stylist that I like change and was looking forward to it. Finally, today is the day! The day I’d color my hair. I am honestly amazed. The stain protection worked!! It never works on my skin, this did. Ok, let’s mix up color!! Perfect amount of color and developer. I was worried about that because I have a lot of hair. Each time I would move to the next step, I still kept my hopes low. Holy cow did y’all ever change that!!! The color, the developer, the shine, shampoo (that lathers up so beautifully and WILL be enough for anyone’s hair, are truly unbelievable! Now it’s time for the big reveal. This color covers grey, colored my hair, and has the shiniest shine to it!! I’m thrilled! So thrilled I want more people to know about your company. I'd give zero stars if I couldI finally got a chance to use the dye kit and was not at all happy with it. I have long thick hair and the shampoo/conditioner was not enough for my hair. Awesome color; awesome feeI made the purchase in a moment of weakness. I was OK with my current shelf product, but decided to give it a try to determine if there was a difference after seeing reviews. It was the BEST decision!
